Dear Alliance for Clean Texas Friend,
Today you will see some new bills on this ACTion alert and also notice that some of the floor votes that we anticipated last week were delayed to this coming Monday and Tuesday. If you didn’t get the chance to contact your legislators on SB 277 and HB 1818 before, you now another opportunity before their floor votes early next week.
The ACT conference call will be this Sunday, March 26 at 5:30 pm. We will discuss new bills and those moving to the floor. Please take action on the following bills at your earliest convenience.
ACTION 1 – Support a bill to develop a new action alert system (similar to statewide amber alerts) for pollution upsets to be heard in the House Environmental Regulation Committee on Tuesday at 8 am. Tell Committee members to support HB 1927 by Rep. Eddie Rodriguez by clicking on https://actionnetwork.org/letters/protect-frontline-communities-near-chemical-plants-and-refineries-from-toxic-exposure to help protect public health.
ACTION 2 – Reject a bad wind power bill SB 277 by contacting your local State Senator. SB 277 by Campbell was to be heard this past week, but was delayed to this coming week. This bill would restrict the siting of wind farms in Texas around military bases. The Department of Defense and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas already regulate siting, so there is no need for additional siting restrictions. Learn more and email your State Senator now.
ACTION 3 – The Railroad Commission Sunset bill HB 1818 has now moved to a floor vote on Tuesday. Tell your local House member to improve our oil and gas regulatory agency by supporting amendments for a better bonding system, a better website with searchable information on violations and complaints, and to adopt higher fines to deter violators. Email your House representative now to demand reform.
