Friday Action Alert - March 10, 2017

Submitted by Sean on Fri, 03/10/2017 - 15:02

Dear Alliance for Clean Texas Friend,

Today is the deadline for all bills to be filed at the Texas legislature. From now on, the Senate and House will quickly move many of the bills we care about through committee or onto their respective floors for a vote.

This week’s ACT conference call will happen this Sunday, March 12 at 5:30 pm. We will discuss the following bills and need your action today and early next week to help improve or defeat these bills. See the following 3 actions.

ACTION 1 Contact your local State Senator and tell them to reject SB 277 by Campbell. Reject SB 277 by Campbell. This bill would unfairly create disincentives and restrict the siting of wind farms in Texas around military bases - a process the Department of Defense and ERCOT – our Electric Reliability Council of Texas who run our electric grid – already addresses. Click on and learn more.

ACTION 2 – Contact before or come testify at the House Environmental Regulation Committee on Tuesday at 8 am in E1.026. Tell them to reject HB 815 by Burkett. This bill would require the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to: (1) conduct a detailed regulatory analysis; and (2) require compliance cost information with a fiscal note before adopting an environmental rule. This bill in intended to discourage the adoption of environmental regulation by tying it up in red tape.

Joe Pickett (D-Dist. 79)

Ed Thompson (R-Dist 29)

John Cyrier(R-Dist 17)

Tony Dale (R-Dist. 136)

Kyle Kacal (R-Dist. 12)

Brooks Landgraf (R-Dist.18)

J.M. Lozano (R-Dist.43)

Ron Reynolds (D-Dist. 27)

Eddie Rodriguez (D-Dist. 51)

ACTION 3 HB 1818, which addresses the Sunset of the Railroad Commission (RRC) will soon to be voted out of Committee, with the bill quickly moving onto the House floor. Tell your local House member to improve this oil and gas regulatory agency with a better bonding system, a better website with searchable enforcement, violations and complaints, and to adopt better enforcement mechanisms such as increased fines to deter violations. Click on to email your House representative now.

Learn more about these bills on the ACT conference call at 5:30 pm this Sunday, March 12. For more information about the call, email

We thank you for your efforts on these three actions. Access to track your bills of interest at the Texas Legislature.
